Improving PRP Education at the PRP & Regenerative Medicine Symposium

The fields of Orthobiologics and Regenerative Medicine are fairly new, but opportunities to improve doctor education are becoming increasingly available thanks to a handful of conferences and symposiums. The Orthobiologic Institute, TOBI, was founded by Dr. Steven Sampson to bring together Regenerative Medicine specialists from around the world to provide a platform from which to train and educate physicians in the latest techniques in the field.

At TOBI’s annual PRP & Regenerative Medicine Symposium, doctors and professionals are able to discuss and exchange ideas and experiences using techniques like ultrasound-guided platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) among their peers. TOBI’s symposium is a 2-day event, stocked with educational lectures, discussion groups and hands-on laboratory time to practice each new technique. Live patient demonstrations as well as available cadaver labs are also provided to enhance each physician’s PRP education.

For many physicians, using ultrasound guidance to administer injections is a new process. The symposium provides the education and hands-on experience Regenerative Medicine physicians need to confidently incorporate the technology into their own practices. Additionally, each participant is encouraged to discuss case studies,  best practices and personal experiences with peers to enhance all participants’ experience.

If attending the annual symposium isn’t feasible, TOBI also offers educational PRP DVDs for purchase. These videos provide over five hours of PRP education, from basic information to live patient injection demonstrations. In addition to PRP injections of the shoulder, knee and first metatarsal, purchasers also learn about and watch musculoskeletal ultrasound on various joints of the body.

Another option TOBI provides for continued PRP education is for physicians who purchased the DVD set. These doctors can request one-half to two full days of Clinical Observation and live patient demonstration from Dr. Sampson. Available for parties of five to 20 physicians, these small group programs are an excellent way to further any Regenerative Medicine physician’s PRP education.
